Anouk & Sarah Bettens - I Alone

This song is featuring three magic ingredients to be awesome. Firstly, I Alone is one of the singles from Throwing Copper, the album that brought Live their commercial breakthrough. Second, the voices are the most successful female vocalists the BeNeLux has offered. Anouk may be remembered only for her hit Nobody's Wife, but she has continued success in her home country Netherlands. Sarah Bettens is the lead singer of Belgian rockers K's Choice.

Jewel Feat. Kelly Clarkson - Foolish Games

UB40 & Chrissie Hynde - I Got You Babe

Sonny and Cher's classica duet I Got You, Babe has known quite a lot of versions, including one "performed" by Cher and... Beavis & Butthead. Since it's so hot and summery, though, let's get a bit raggae. Raggae pop band UB40 hail from Birmingham, UK, while Hereford native Chrissie Hynde is the leader of the Pretenders. And they got each other since 1985.

Queen and David Bowie - Under Pressure

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds with P.J. Harvey - Henry Lee

The story told through this song is centuries old, but no version is as successful as the one by Nick Cave and P. J. Harvey. A story of love, disappointment, murder and punishment.

Seether & Amy Lee - Broken

They are a post-grunge band from South Africa. She is from California and better known as being the founding member and voice of Evanescence. Together, they clain to be Broken.

Motorhead - I Ain't No Nice Guy

Featuring Ozzy Osbourne and Slash.

Bryan Ferry - Slave to Love

This is a typical case of saving the best for last, this time taking on the sound of the voice of Roxy Music. One of the most sultry songs ever written (and sung). It has that delta heat of Black Velvet and belongs to Bryan Ferry.

Sugababes - Push The Button

Sexy Sunday

Touch and Go - Would You...?

Reaching back to Eurodance tracks of the 90s for Saturdays and there's no small supply of sexy time songs there. And that even without playing anything from the obviously named German duo E-rotic. Here's something a bit more jazzy and just as direct.

Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mya, Pink - Lady Marmalade

Whitesnake - Slow and Easy

Now, I am not much of a gerontophiliac, if you think this is where we're headed today. But David Coverdale somehow manages to be one sexy old geezer. He's never been quite shy to sing about it and I doubt he heard many no's to the invite below.

Boyz II Men - I'll Make Love To You

Sexy Friday

Rammstein - Mann gegen Mann

We have skipped these guys in the German week cause they were duh-level obvious. But they've a reputation for scandalous songs and this is one of them. Oh, and the video is probably NSFW.

Heart - All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You

Sexy Thursday

Cyndi Lauper - She Bop

Cyndi Lauper has an album with a title that describes her perfectly - She's So Unusual. That album incidentally features one of the songs that lead to the creation of Parental Advisory stickers. She Bop was the culprit as it created a fuss among puritans outraged by its topic: masturbation.

Madonna - Like A Virgin

Sexy Wednesday

Depeche Mode - Master and Servant

A Pain That I'm Used To is a bit too new for Ruby Tuesday, so we can skip the S&M part today and just focus on the D&s. Depeche can suit any mood and need just fine.

Marvin Gaye - Lets Get It On

"Weird" Al Yankovic - Amish Paradise

A spoof on Sunday :)

Alphabeat - Fascination

Because nothing invites happiness in quite like retaining a childlike fascination for the world. The Danes from Alphabeat can testify that with their summer hit from 2007.

Cappela - U Got 2 Let The Music

Back to the 90's, once again...

Doing Time - I Was a Ye-Ye Girl

Get yourselves dancing while celebrating the free spirits and high moods of the 60s. For your information, this is what wiki says: Yé-yé was a style of pop music that emerged from France, Italy and Spain in the early 1960s. The term "yé-yé" derived from "yeah! yeah!".

JazzyBIT - Winter Town

A little bit of jazz on Thursday :)

Joe Cocker - I Come in Peace

He comes in peace, like all anciently wise creatures of the Universe do. This one's off Joe Cocker's 22nd's album, released in November last year, and dammit, he's been going on and on since 1961. Most of us can't even say that about our lives, let alone our careers.

Sportfreunde Stiller - Applaus

Never knew much about Sportfreunde Stiller other that they existed... However, I saw them live last year and it was a really enjoyable show. And what better way to end the German week, than in a resounding round of applause.

MIA. - Auferstanden aus Ruinen

This is the punk version of the East German anthem.

Marius Müller-Westernhagen - Sexy

Well, sexy is not necessarily something I would call this guy... but since a sexy has made him so miserable, I think he deserves a bit of attention as a consolation prize.

Xavier Naidoo - Bei Meiner Seele

I pretty new song, but still, I find it a beautiful compliment, a straight and simple declaration of love.

Farin Urlaub - Phaenomenal egal

Can we really call this a love song?

Corvus Corax - In Taberna

And today we go Neo-medieval with Corvus Corax. First time I heard this song, it made quite a strong impression on me, because it was at the SighiÅŸoara Medieval Festival [ do check it out! ] and it was being used by fire dancers. Beautiful images.
Anyways, small trivia: they use authentic instruments, very often bagpipes solos.

Scooter - Hyper, Hyper

In the 90s, there was something called Eurodance. And a good portion of it and mostly of the trance crossovers were German artists. Along with half a dozen boy bands that have long since vanished in yellowed, dog-eared Bravo pages, you could literally not get away from songs of the likes of Scooter.

Die Aerzte - Maenner sind Schweine

Punk is definitely not dead!

Boehse Onkelz - Gestern war heute noch morgen

For Thursday we have a controversial band, called Böhse Onkelz.

Wednesday, July 3, 2013

Marlene Dietrich - Lili Marleen

Gods, what a woman.

Warlock - Make Time for Love

It is not the first time that Doro has graced this blog with her powerful presence. But since I seem to have started on a German rock bands note, let's keep that up one more day.

Sandra - Maria Magdalena

I often forget that Sandra is actually German. This song managed to climb to the top of the charts not only in Europe. It was even remixed a few times, and we all dance to it if we get the chance.

Apocalyptica ft Nina Hagen - Seemann

I feel like I'm cheating a little bit, because the band itself isn't German, but the artist they're featuring and the song they're singing are German :)

Modern Talking - You´re My Heart, You´re My Soul

If it´s Ruby Tuesday, these guys should definitely appear here, at least once. My generation grew up with their songs, and hate ´em, love ´em, they´re up with the old rubies by now.

Scorpions - Rock You Like a Hurricane

The first song I ever remember remembering was Scorpions' Wind of Change. I fell in love with it cause it had that je ne sais quoi that I later learned to identify as the trademark of a well written power balad. Therefore, the ever audio cassette I ever owned was, at my request, something of the Scorpions. And boy, was I in for a surprise when instead the gentle uplifting riffs, my tender, innocent ears got blasted by the likes of Virgin Killer. Cause, uhm... yeah... The Scorpions are a German rock band. Or well, used to be.

Can - I want more

Here is a beautiful example of Krautrock, forefather to so many other contemporary genres.

Kraftwerk - Trans Europa Express

Let's take a ride withe the Trans Europa Express.

Rammstein - Keine Lust

A German week cannot start with anything else _but_ Rammstein. And being Monday, I´m not in the mood... for anything.

And least of all for work xP

Lacrimosa - Der Morgen Danach

Time is running out for all of us, and Lacrimosa apparently know that it is doing so even if you are in love, or especially when you are in love to be more accurate.

D.A.F - Der Mussolini

Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft or D.A.F. is an influential German electropunk/NDW (Neue Deutsche Welle) band from Düsseldorf, formed in 1978.

Atrocity - Cold Black Days

Mondays are indeed cold black days. Atrocity are a metal band from Ludwigsburg, so they gotta know, since spring has waited till June this year to grace that area... cold black days, indeed.
