EAV - Ding Dong

Just a bit of Austrian fun :)

Die Toten Hosen - Walkampf

A nice light song for a light hearted Thursday :)

Beck - Loser

I somehow remember hating this song back in the 90s. Then again, it's one of them songs that gets stuck in your hand only to resurface time and time again when you least expect it.

Nina Simone - Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood

This Ladies' Wednesday seems to be more of a Nina Simone Wednesday, and I didn't want to be the odd one out =D
I fell in love with this song years ago; well, it was a cover, but still. It was a Discovery commercial for a program about wolves, I've really been scouring the internet for that one, but alas, no luck. Anyway. Enjoy the song ;-)

Nina Simone - Feeling Good

Here's a toast to a fine lady with an equally fine voice.

Nina Simone- I Put Spell On You

I put a spell on you
'Cause you're mine

You better stop the things you do
I ain't lyin'
No I ain't lyin'

Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive

On my internet travels this morning, I stumbled upon the following picture... and being Ruby Tuesday... :D

Yes - Owner of a Lonely Heart

I can't really say that this song is older than me, since I was a toddler when this one hit the market. Nevertheless, since I am not particularly young, I think it qualifies for Ruby Tuesday posts.

Morris Albert - Feelings

Morris Albert (born Maurício Alberto Kaisermann, 7 September 1951, São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil) is a Brazilian singer and songwriter, famous for his 1975 hit single, "Feelings".

Metallica - Frantic

Here's to another frantic week...

Alice in Chains - Hollow

Time for a grunge revival, as Alice in Chains have a new album coming out as well at the beginning of this year. Hollow is the first single and... well, welcome back, grunge angst of my teenage years. I kinda missed you. There, settle in comfortably in my heart, my earphones and my manic Mondays.

Rage Against The Machine - Sleep Now In The Fire

Nothin' better than a tad of rage on a Monday morning, ah?

Kaoma - The Lambada

From the days of yore...

Faithless - We Come 1

I kinda always liked Faithless, without necessarily being a fan. And as a matter of fact, I count myself lucky to have witnessed these guys in concert and they were pretty amazing. And I think this particular song was the highlight of it, with some twenty thousand people actually joining in, jumping and yelling "one".

Bellini - Samba De Janeiro

Youth memories :)

Rammstein - Ohne Dich

I don't think these guys need any introduction. Nor this song.

Edwyn Collins - A Girl Like You

I am too lazy to google, so I hope I am not misleading anyone if I call this dude a one hit wonder. I for one, at least, can't remember any other song of his. But I remember liking this video when it came out and Edwyn's distinctive voice.

Sade - Love Is Stronger Than Pride

Goran Bregovic - Ya Ya (Ringe Ringe Raja)

What, no Goran Bregovic yet? This must be corrected asap.

The Music - Strength in Numbers

This is one of the, in my opinion, most sadly underrated groups ever to come out of England at the turn of the century. By and large, I think they passed pretty much unnoticed in these parts of the world. I first heard their Freedom Fighters but have gone for something more butt-moving for this Thursday's Child post.

Paul van Dyk & Peter Heppner - Wir Sind Wir

We are who we are and we do what we have to do...

Emilie Autumn - Prologue: Across The Sky

Tonight it's this dark cabaret doll known as Emilie Autumn. Her voice is haunting and her violin even more so - even though we don't get to hear it in this particular song.

Texas - In Demand

The lady of today is a lovely Scottish lass with a lovely Scottish accent - the lovely Sharleen Spiteri of Texas. And just for some extra goodies, we're gonna go for that particular video where she's making out with the equally lovely Alan Rickmann.

Amanda Lear - "Enigma (Give a Bit of Mmh to Me)"

Such a deep, rough voice...

Meat Loaf - I Would Do Anything For Love

Ha! Made it before midnight :))
Well, I am rather surprised this wasn't posted yet... not sure how accurate the lyrics in the video are, but ruddy [ so as not to use a harsher word...] Youtube won't let me post the music video.

The Who - My Generation

Since golden oldies is all about people singing about their generations, the ones before us, here's a veritable manifesto on the theme by The Who.

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama

Let's take a trip to Alabama, to see all it's beauties and it's interesting sights...

The Trammps - Disco Inferno

Burb, baby, burn!

I don't much care for Saturdays.... :))

Justin Timberlake - SexyBack

Do you hear that sound? It's fabric rubbing on fabric. Because the heat is up during all the dancing. Oh, of course you can't hear it, the speakers are blasting with bassline. Because it's one of the chosen few who made it from boyband to individual superstardom, Mr. Sexy himself, bringing it all back to us regular mortals.

Fatboy Slim - Weapon Of Choice

For it's Saturday Night Fever, why not watch Christopher Walken dance?

Thursday, January 17, 2013

Arctic Monkeys - Crying Lightning

Let's go for some British Indie Rock :)

Imani Coppola - Legend of a Cowgirl

If we had an one-hit-wonder section around here, I would've saved this song for it. We don't, so I guess Thursday's child is just as good. I remember really liking this song when it first came out and it still bears that nostalgic 90s feeling.

Soggy Bottom Boys- I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow

One of my obsessions, ever since I saw the movie "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?".

Wednesday, January 16, 2013

Gary Stadler and Wendy Rule - Dance of the Wild Faeries

Let's just forget this world out here for a little while...

Adele - Chasing Pavements

Awesome Adele has gone and done it again - sweeping home what awards there were to sweep. This time it was the Golden Globe for her Skyfall, the theme song of the latest Bond movie, which puts her in a pretty exquisite company by itself. Remembering the beginnings, here is her second ever single and the first song I've heard of her. I remember actually stopping dead in my tracks while crossing the room, to see who was actually singing it.

Kim Wilde - Kids In America

One of my sister's favorite singers...

Beach Boys - Good Vibrations

Now for a complete change of vibe... switchin' them good vibrations on, courtesy of this slap happy tune of the Beach Boys for our oldies but goldies Tuesdays. If a little sun doesn't come out in your heart just by hearing this song, you should get examined.

Dire Straits - Money For Nothing

Look at that, look at that!

Seabound - Doubleplusungood

Well, it's Monday again. Or has been for the last 21 hours... Seabound sets the mood tonight.

Travis - Why Does It Always Rain on Me?

Metaphorically speaking, I think this is something we all ask ourselves on Mondays. Imagine all the people not living life in peace, as John Lennon dreamt, but walking around on Mondays, on the streets, in the shops, at the office, in schools and hospitals, around parks and even in their homes, with little rain clouds over their heads, like the one that is always around the Addams' Familiy's house, drenching them in bad mojo... That's the stuff Mondays are made of. Hot Scottish bums in kilts can only lift the mood then, innit?

The Carpenters - Rainy Days And Mondays

Monday... Monday... Monday... Monday...

Cafe Del Mar - Alexander Borodin / Choral Dance

This morning I am relaxing with Cafe del Mar combined with Alexander Borodin's "Prince Igor".

Oasis - Whatever

Well, a promise is a promise. Nearing the end of a string of britpop bands of the 90s, here are the bad boys of Oasis. I never got the fuss around the Wonderwall, so here is the appropriately titled Whatever.

Nada Surf - Popular

Sunday, 13.01.2013... I'm popular... or maybe not...

Sting - Englishman in New York

Heard this song in the cab this morning... and it got stuck:) So I hereby take advantage of this day's freedom of expression and hope to give someone else an earworm.
* sipping some English black tea *

And remember, be yourself no matter what they say ;)

David Bowie - Where Are We Now?

Had something else planned for today originally. But the original Thursdays's child David Bowie, who just recently turned 66 has announced his first new album in ten years (its title is The Next Day) and the first single is available already. So I think a little hailing of this artist is in order.

Metallica - Wherever I May Roam

As for today, we serve Metallica. Because wherever I may roam...

Nightwish - Sleeping Sun

Any rock fan out there agrees that Tarja is one of the great ladies of music. And from the glory days of Nightwish comes one of my favourites for them and according to last.fm one of my most played songs ever - simply because it's one of those that soothes me like few others can.

Blondie - Call Me

For this Wednesday, I've decided to post a song performed by Blondie. If you've seen "American Gigolo", you've certainly heard it :)

Ray Charles - Hit The Road, Jack!

Well, if it's Ruby Tuesday, Ray Charles must have his post.

Phoenix - Nunta

Straight from the archives of the Romanian national television, a recording from one of the (rather few) Romanian music legends.

The Doors - L.A. Woman

I can't imagine any oldies section without The Doors. So, here's my tribute to them. Although "Light My Fire", "Break On Through", "Riders on the Storm" and "The End", I like "L.A. Women" best. So. here it is :)

Gnarls Barkley - Just A Thought

Just the right Manic Monday mood...

But I'm fine...

Blur - Country House

Going back to brit pop for Monday's manics for Blur (which means I should also have an Oasis post soon... hmmm...). And if you wonder why it's for Manic Monday, just take a look at the lyrics.

Tool - Sober

"Sober"... I can't think for a better way to start a new week. The truth is, I need a motivational song to start this week, and "Sober" seems to be the best thing :)

Covenant - Happy Man

Well, it's not exactly Sunday morning anymore, but to those who didn't have an easy Sunday morning, let the evening make up for it... and let's see what makes the Covenant guys so happy... Mind you, this is Covenant, not The Kovenant. We've got Swedish synth, not Norwegian black metal.

Paolo Nutini - New Shoes

Simply reading the first sentence of this guy's biography on Wikipedia makes me want to smile: Paolo Giovanni Nutini is a Scottish singer, songwriter and musician from Paisley. And he has easy listening listed among the genres (hear that? this day's topic is actually a genre!) and since all other songs that came to my mind were fairly depressing... Paolo it is and his New Shoes that make him so slap happy.

Mike Oldfield - Shadow On The Wall

Just a little sample from a friend's cruising music :)

Saturday, January 5, 2013

James Brown - I Got You (I Feel Good)

It's a classic...

Duffy - Mercy

Dance, boys and girls, just dance...

Pulp - Disco 2000

Well... not a dancing song proper, but it's about a disco all right. Disco 2000 to be precise. Let's all meet up in the year 2000, won't it be fun when we're all fully grown... The sad part is that I remember the time when this song was set in the future, since it was released in 1995 and that it seemed such a long way to go till then, till we're all fully grown... which incidentally (and legally) actually happened to me in the year 2000. Oh, life has a funny way.

Awolnation - Sail

Just one of my obsessions....

Urban Symphony - Rändajad

For no particular reason, this song popped again into my mind. It was my absolute favourite at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest. The title is Estonian and means 'nomads' or 'travellers'.

Manic Street Preachers - A Design For Life

I've had this song in my head for a long, long time, not knowing who sings it, or how it is called... Finally found it :)

Yoko Kanno - The Realk Folk Blues

I'm gonna be a bit unorthodox about this one... most likely not for the last time:) Here's a song that I absolutely adore since the day I first came to listen to it, created by the prolific Japanese composer and instrumentalist Yoko Kanno and voiced by Mai Yamane. Mrs. Kanno is rather known for her work on anime soundtracks and I dare say she is always reinventing herself, coming up with always new approaches to music. This particular song comes from the OST of an anime called Cowboy Bebop, a rather dark space western with a brilliant soundtrack that I would recommend any day, with its mixture of blues and jazz. The anime itself is also worth watching, the way story, music and characters come together is superb.
Here the lyrics with an English translation:

The Real Folk Blues Lyrics

Anouk - Mood Indigo

The first time I ever heard of this particular Dutch lady was on Nobody's Wife, which is quite a nice rocky anthem. Some while later, I won a tape (yes, a tape!) of her album Together Alone in a radio show contest and I fell in love with the bluesy voice rocking out those songs. Like on this song for instance.

Macy Gray - I Try

I just love her voice... I love it since I heard Fat Boy Slim's song "Demons", song that features Macy Gray.

Scorpions - Wind of Change

Take me to the magic of the moment on a glory night, where the children of tomorrow dream away... in the wind of change...

ABBA - Happy New Year

I can't have been more predictable than this... right? Abba definitely deserve a post up there on the goldies list, though I would've preferred anything less cheesy than this. However, who am I to battle that calender on my wall, that says January 1st?

Black - Wonderful Life

This was one of the first songs I saw on a VCR, in the 80's, at my cousin's house :). Those were times when the movies you watched on your VCR were synced in Romanian, and if there was a little bit of space left, one simply threw in a few music videos :)
