I still haven’t watched the movie...

New Radicals - You Get What You Give
The embodiment of the feelings of an entire generation:
" Wake up kids
We've got the dreamers disease"
We've got the dreamers disease"
Bobby McFerrin - Don't Worry, Be Happy
One of the most recognizable songs ever sadly remained a one-hit wonder, at least as far as I am aware. But if an artist is only ever gonna be known by one song, I guess this is among the best ones to be stuck with.

Rozalla - Everybody's Free
Dancing, hot summer nights and a lot of fun. This is why nothing compares to the freedom of a party in the nineties.
MARRS - Pump Up the Volume
1987's hit Pump Up the Volume was a one-time hit for combo band M.A.R.R.S. I am not sure that that in itself isn't a good thing, actually.
Anita Ward - Ring My Bell
I've heard many a metaphor and euphemism for lovemaking, but "ring my bell" is really too abstract for me.
Apparently, the song was originally a juvenile-targeted tune about teens talking on the telephone, but they changed it to a more adult-y version. Too bad they didn't change the chorus, too.

Sir Mix-a-Lot - Baby Got Back
Sir Mix-a-Lot is best known for his 1992 album Mack Daddy and its Grammy Award-winning single "Baby Got Back."

Chris Norman & Suzi Quatro - Stumblin' In
This song accurately depicts the feeling of falling in love, or stumblin' in, or however one would call it.
Patrick Swayze - She's Like the Wind
I seem stuck on soundtracks. Well, no matter, after all Hollywood gave us both one of the cheesiest movies ever and a song to match. So here's the star from Dirty Dancing, languishing over Baby.
Big Mountain - Baby I Love Your Way
Big Mountain is an American reggae/pop band, most famous for its cover version of Peter Frampton's "Baby, I Love Your Way," which became a Top 10 hit single in the U.S. in early 1994 reaching number 6 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, number-one on Mainstream Top 40, and number 2 in the UK shortly afterwards.

Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen
If I were Eileen, at least I would pause and listen to the awesome song of Dexy's Midnight Runners.
Spin Doctors - Two Princes
If there's anything that qualifies as random when it pops up on a music blog, it's gotta be two princes and a couple of spin doctors...

Meredith Brooks - I'm A Bitch
The great wonder of Meredith Brooks was to see the complexity of people...at least of women.
Ana Johnsson - We Are
This typical Scandinavian beauty might be known in her native Sweden, but outside of it she only scored once - with this song from the soundtrack of Spiderman 2.

Terry Jacks - Seasons In The Sun
It's ages since I last heard this song... still makes me somewhat sad. The French original version of the song, Le Moribond, had a little bit more bite, Terry Jacks' version however is milder and more melancholic.
Scott McKenzie - San Francisco
One of the best songs ever, and probably the reason why San Francisco was invaded by young and curious hippies in search for the happiness.
Zager & Evans - In the Year 2525
Loads of stuff that came true sooner... but if you're looking for a science fiction song, you might put this one hit wonder from 1969 on your list.
The Buggles - Video Killed The Radio Star
"Video Killed the Radio Star" is a song first recorded by Bruce Woolley & the Camera Club (with Thomas Dolby on keyboards) for his album English Garden, which was a hit in Canada. It was later recorded by the British synthpop/New Wave group The Buggles, released as their debut single on 7 September 1979, on Island Records from their debut album The Age of Plastic. It celebrates the golden days of radio, describing a singer whose career is cut short by television. The song topped the music chart in several countries and has been covered by many recording artists. Its music video was the first shown on MTV in the U.S. at 12:01am on 1 August 1981.

Kyū Sakamoto - Sukiyaki
Aaand I´m back. Sorry to all my fans out there for the long absence, I hope it didn´t break their hearts [how I love to kid myself xP].
Re-starting with a cute Japanese song, with rather sad lyrics, despite its easy-going tone and whistle.
Little bit of trivia: the song reached number one in the United States Billboard Hot 100 in June 1963. Up to this date, Mr. Sakamoto is the first and only Asian singer to have a number one song on the Billboard Hot 100. It was also the first ever Japanese language song to enter the UK charts.
Here you can find the English translation of the lyrics.
4 Non Blondes - What's going on?
They probably never found out what was going on...and most of us still try. Anyhow, 4 Non Blondes made an awesome song about the question, not the answer.
Chumbawamba - Tubthumping
I dare you to name another song by Chumbawamba in 10 seconds. See?
Anyway, if Monday knocks you down, get up again. Take it from these guys.

Vangelis - Conquest of Paradise
A grand finale to the instrumental part of our movie and tv scores comes from Vangelis. We've already featured his Chariots of Fire, but he has more up his sleeve, so from the classical Columbus movie comes his Conquest of Paradise.
Soggy Bottom Boys - I'm A Man Of Constant Sorrow
George Clooney can apparently sing, and he does it pretty good I might add. The soundtrack of "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" is funny and catchy.

Keli Holdversson - Sad Disco
From Pusher II of the Pusher trilogy by Nicolas Winding Refn, here's Sad Disco.
Adam Clayton & Larry Mullen - Mission: Impossible Theme
It would've indeed been an impossible mission to come up with seven instrumental themes from films and TV series without listing this now classical track by half of U2. And I dare you to sit still while listening to it.
Irene Cara - What a feeling
Dance movies are not what they used to be. "Flashdance" is from that times. Great music, awesome dancer.

Francis Lai - Theme from Love Story
One of the classical love movies (and a very inventive one when it comes to titles) also gave one of the most recognizable themes. While Andy Williams sang it with words, the theme to the movie was composed by Francis Lai.
Joe Cocker - Up where we belong
I know it is cheesy, but it is still Joe Cocker. A beautiful song about what love actually should be.

Mark Snow - X-Files
Another classical TV series and another classical and instantly recognizable theme. Get some more chills with agents Mulder and Scully.
Survivor - Eye of the tiger
Probably the best song ever to take up jogging, boxing or just relaxing. Somehow i always have to think about running on stairs while listening to this song from "Rocky".
Stan Bush - The Touch
Now it's a little cartoon time, this song being featured on the animated movie "The Transformers: The Movie", from 1986.

Zoë Keating - Fern
Here's this beautiful song. I didn't know it's part of Desert Son's soundtrack but I'm glad it is so I can share it and be on-topic.
Candy Dulfer - Lily Was Here
Ladies' Wednesday in an instrumental fashion was a really tough nut to crack, since apparently no major series or movie features any Vanessa Mae and my knowledge of instrumental ladies kinda ends here. Fortunately, it seems this famous song by Candy Dulfer was included in two episodes of Beverly Hills 90210, a series that every kid who grew up in the '90s knows about.
Tina Turner - We Don't Need Another Hero
My entire childhood I loved Mad Max, and it made me love post-apocalyptic worlds and people who always try to make a difference. But what would the movie be, without the unique and overwhelming presence and voice of Tina.

Ennio Morricone - A Fistful of Dollars
One of the most prolific composers of soundtracks and single handedly responsible for several classic scores of the Western genre, here is Ennio Morricone's theme from A Fistful of Dollars.
Frank Sinatra - As Time Goes By
This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship, mostly between great movies and great music. "Casablanca" partially owes its vibrant atmosphere to the songs and the performers.

Angelo Badalamenti - Twin Peaks Theme
Nothing better to give you the spooks on a Monday than those bass strings being plucked at the beginning of Twin Peaks. So let's kick off an instrumental round of soundtracks with Angelo Badalamenti's classic theme.
Godsmack - I Stand Alone
So, everyone who saw "The Scorpion King" remembers the ending credits and this song performed by Godsmack.

Giacomo Tremoglie - Tarantellina
Before saying goodbye to Italy, let's not forget Sicily and its fascinating marranzanu.
Lacuna Coil - Enjoy the Silence
Well, our musical trip to Italy is coming to an end and hey, I definitely discovered new things. As a matter of fact, I wanted to leave you in the company of Tiziano Ferro's Perdono to "apologize for any inconvenience". But to my surprise, I have learned that Lacuna Coil are actually Italian (so are Graveworm, apparently, but I spared you that). So here are the Milanese with a Depeche Mode cover. Since it's supposed to be a chill out Sunday - enjoy the silence.

Dumbo Gets Mad - Eclectic Prawn
Ok, ok... you can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life, whatever...
Julie's Haircut - Satan eats Seitan
For all the computers out there who get lonely when eeeverybody goes clubbing on a Saturday night.
Benny Benassi - Satisfaction
A wicked rhythm, girls in sexy outfits and powertools are the ingredients that propelled Italian DJ Benassi in the dance charts in the early 2000's (and ensured that the video got playtime at night mostly, as well).

Adriano Celentano - 24000 baci
If 24000 kisses doesn't cover for whatever Friday love mood we're in, I don't know what does.
Nino D'Angelo - Senza Giacca e Cravatta
We're bringing some flavor in from Naples, and no, it's not pizza. It's the sound of hot summer nights. The ones where you take of your suit and tie, you know...

Caruso - Vesti la giubba
Caruso, the first gramophone star to sell more than a million copies with his 1907 recording of 'Vesti la giubba' from the opera 'Pagliacci' by Ruggero Leoncavallo.
Alessandro Moreschi - Ave Maria
Alessandro Moreschi, the last castrato the only one to have made sound recordings.
Toto Cutugno - Insieme 1992
We've had a couple of songs around here that the world found out about because of the Eurovision Song contest (and that even without posting Abba or Johnny Logan). The first edition that I remember was won by Italy, in 1990 with a song celebrating unity in Europe. And cheesy as it might sound - I still like this song.
Wednesday, June 12, 2013
Giusy Ferreri - La Scala
Giusy Ferreri emerged following the X-Factor show in Italy, where she was a runner up in 2008. Hah, I got around posting Laura Pausini :))

Litfiba - Cangaceiro
Piero Pelù tells us a story about the Brazilian Robin Hood's.
Spiritual Front - Jesus died in Las Vegas
Along the Appian Way came Spiritual Front.
Al Bano & Romina Power - Felicità
If you want to know what your parents were dancing to when they were young - this song was ripping through the European charts in the early Eighties, after finishing second at the Sanremo music festival in 1982.
Franco Battiato - Segnali di vita
Francesco (Franco) Battiato is an Italian singer-songwriter, composer, filmmaker and, under the pseudonym Süphan Barzani, also a painter. Battiato's songs contain esoteric, philosophical and religious themes.
He is and has been for decades one of the most popular pop singer-songwriters in Italy. His unique sound, song-crafting and especially his lyrics, often containing philosophical, religious, and culturally exotic references, as wells as tackling or painting universal themes about the human condition - unusual subjects for pop songs - earned him a unique spot on Italy's music scene, and the nickname of "Il Maestro".

The Frozen Autumn - Polar Plateau
As 'Cose della vita" was pestering the music scene, The Frozen Autumn was emerging in Turin.
Diaframma - Neogrigio
Let there be Monday gloom, for there is such a thing as Italian darkwave.
Dope Stars Inc. - Better Not to Joke
Dope Stars Inc. are hailing from Rome and are giving a very sound advice on Monday: it's better not to joke. Cause you know, Monday is dead serious.
The Bloody Beetroots feat. Dennis Lyxzén - Church of Noise
Let's all join The Church of Noise and The Cult of Of...

Freddie Mercury & Montserrat Caballé - Barcelona
Chill and be inspired. Our trip ends in sunny Barcelona and a great duet.
Saturday, June 8, 2013
Falco - Vienna Calling
If we've had London calling, why not Vienna as well? Falco is more than happy to oblige.
Friday, June 7, 2013
Gary Moore - Parisienne Walkways
Another one of those guitar heroes that have gone too soon, with a guitar that sings a love song to the city of love. Fitting for our Fridays.
Thursday, June 6, 2013
Muse - Stockholm Syndrome
Well, I am not sure if (presuming a city wants something) a city would want to be known as a namesake for something like this, but... well, the Stockholm syndrome is there and so is the song and what better excuse for me to post a Muse song again.
Wednesday, June 5, 2013
Amanda Palmer - Berlin
The song about the German city in the line comes from Amanda Fucking Palmer and her Grand Theft Orchestra's Theatre Is Evil.
Tuesday, June 4, 2013
The Clash - London Calling
For oldies' day, we have the punkers from Clash with a song about one old lady - London.
Dschinghis Khan - Moskau
Goin' down on Memory Lane, here's a bunch of Germans singing about Moscow, good old disco days...

Billy Joel - Leningrad
I've decreed this week as dedicated to European cities. And for Monday, we have one of the most depressing songs ever - Leningrad by Billy Joel.
Sunday, June 2, 2013
Charles Aznavour - La Boheme
One of the best known French singers of all time is ending our French themed week - the legendary Charles Aznavour. Lay back and let it wash over you.

Alizée - Moi, Lolita
One of the teenie poppy French stars that made it mainstream enough for me to have heard of her and a 90s dance floor hit is gracing our Saturday night fever. What a way to celebrate children's day.
