Manau - Le tribu de dana

Manau are a French hip hop band using traditional celtic melodies to give their music a colourful tinge. This particular song features something I've first heard Alan Stivell sing.

The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary

If she sells, I'm buying.

Patricia Kaas - Mademoiselle chante le blues

Keeping in theme with the French songs, here is Patricia Kaas gracing the lady spotlight on Wednesday. Pretty hard to pick a tune, but I went for something a bit more uplifting, even if she tells us of the girl who sings the blues.

Siouxsie & the Banshees - Kiss Them For Me

Superstition

Edith Piaf - Non, je ne regrette rien

Here is French chanson legend Edith Piaf, assuring us for over half a century now already that she doesn't regret a thing.

Jimi Hendrix - Hey Joe

You know I caught my old lady messin' 'round town
And I gave her the gun
And I shot her

Noir Désir - Le vent nous portera

Don't you just feel like running away, to wherever the winds might take you?
Here's the kick off to a French themed week from my side, with Bordeaux rockers, Noir Désir.

Moby - Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?

Because it's Monday, that's why.

Leonardo Trincabelli - Hang Performance in Parc Güell

If you happen to be in Barcelona at any given time, please do yourself a favour and take a walk through Parc Güell. If the weather is nice, you might chance upon Leonardo Trincabelli and his hang. Enjoy the performance, because it is worthwhile.

Knorkator - Du nich

A little bit of irony, German style.

Amr Diab - Amarain

If you want to know what Ricky Martin would've looked and sounded like if he'd been of Arab instead of Latin heritage, you might as well press play. Amr Diab hails from Egypt and this title literally means "twin moons". The stuff you learn when you read novels by "exotic" authors...

RUN-DMC vs. Jason Nevins - It's Like That

Rocked the dance floor in the late 90's.

The Communards - Don't Leave Me This Way

A classical song and a Jimmy Sommerville's voice is something to behold indeed. Plus, he's Scottish, which is always a bonus as far as I am concerned. Plus, he had the guts to come out when not many people did.

Michael Bolton - Said I Loved You...But I Lied

So did I lie or not?

Paul van Dyk - The Other Side

Since we've seen RHCP's other side this week, why not take a peek at it in a totally different genre? A name even I have heard of in the scene.

Paperjam - Siderophobia

Here it is. Something different for this Thursday, the song of a band called Paperjam. If you like it, maybe you'll like their Facebook page too:Paperjam

Sheryl Crow - Soak Up the Sun

Just because technically, I am still on a mini-holiday. Not that there is much sun to speak of in Germany, but they say it's the thought that counts. And this lady definitely deserves a Wednesday's spotlight.

Guano Apes - Rain

Depeche Mode - People are People

Greetings from the hopefully sunny Budapest. Where these guys will be (en)chanting tonight. So for oldies' day, we're dusting off this single from 1984's Some Great Reward.

Sex Pistols - God Save The Queen

There can't be punk without these guys.

Jane Siberry - It Can't Rain All the Time

When I was around 14 and my granny fell asleep one night, I was left alone watching TV and I saw something that has haunted me for a long time afterwards and up to the point I discovered the magic of Google. I am not talking about seeing my first porn scene ever, which incidentally happened the same night; I had been watching The Crow and was bawling my eyes out. Ever since that night, I have wanted an appartment in an attic, with a round window and also, for a long time, I kept randomly remembering a soothing female voice, reassuring me that It Can't Rain All the Time. It was much later when the www exploded that I found Jane Sibbery's song again and the magical aura still hasn't rubbed off.

Willie Nelson - Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die

Yeah, just do that...

White Lies - To Lose My Life

Let's grow old together and die at the same time is a bit on the morbid side, as far as declarations of love go. Forgive them, they were nearly teens and scared to / of death. And yes, they sound like they want to be Joy Division when they grow up. I could think of worse crimes...

The Proclaimers - I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)

Because that's what one does when one's in love...

Michael Jackson - Billie Jean

I don't think this post needs any introduction at all. And I could've chosen just about any out of Michael's discography. The two huge man and woman idols of the late mid 80s - mid 90s span, the Adam and Eve of pop were definitely Michael and Madonna, so it's only fair that each should get their due here.

Iggy Pop - Lust For Life

Trainspottin', ah?

Madonna - Take a Bow

It would be hard to pinpoint a period in Madonna's carreer or an album or a song that meant more than another - she has somehow managed to be a chameleon of pop and stay on top for so long, that both her music and her image have changed to reflect (and face it, sometimes shape) the spirit and style of the times. But this one has to be one of my favourites of hers.

Garbage - The World Is Not Enough

I know when to talk
And I know when to touch

Jethro Tull - Too Old to Rock 'n' Roll: Too Young to Die

Ever had that very distinct feeling of being caught between two ages, fitting properly into neither? Then this is a song for you. Take it from someone who knows - a story that's been true since 1976.

Chuck Berry - Johnny B. Goode

What would rock 'n ' roll be without these songs?

Monday, May 13, 2013

Sidney Youngblood - Sit and Wait

This is a very distinct possibility on a Monday - sitting and waiting for the day to be finally over and done with. Let this one-hit-wonder join you.

Megadeth-Symphony of Destruction

Bollocks, it's Monday again...

Soundtrack of Our Lives - Jehovah Sunrise

Well, if you are so used to getting up early, that you can't enjoy a long morning in bed on Sunday, you might as well enjoy a sunrise, even a Jehovah one. And listen to the Soundtrack of Our Lives. It is time passing us by...

Boots Randolph - Yakety Sax

On Sunday, a little tribute to Benny Hill and his crazy shows :)

Andy Burrows - Hometown

One of the gems picked up from local music station Deluxe TV is this particular song. Digging around, I found that Andy Burrows has been associated with a couple of acts that kind of guarantee good music - he was a drummer with Razorlight and We Are Scientists and has collaborated with the Editor's Tom Smith. In October last year, he released his solo album. Which once again made me wonder about the distribution of music and my way of (not) looking for it...

Metallica - Turn The Page

Here I am
On the road again...

Björk - Army of Me

It was only a matter of time until we got round to this particular lady. As weird as anything Iceland ever produced music wise that I am aware of (and that is not much, as I can only thing of Sigur Ros), here comes the tiny but energetic Björk.

Silvia Pérez Cruz · 20 años

Surprise :)

Monday, May 6, 2013

Radiohead - Karma Police

Nothing more suitable to Mondays than the most depressive band ever. Karma police, arrest this girl.

KVELERTAK - Månelyst

Something for your easy and cozy and meaningless Monday...

Paula Abdul - Straight Up

The music industry has a lot to thank for when it comes to this lady and tons of artists out there owe her their moves.

P!nk - Try

Used to ignore this song... until now :)
