Fun ft. Janelle Monáe - We Are Young

I really really like this song. First, I thought it was just a passing thing, but I still do. I am afraid to listen to the entire album, I might get disappointed, like I did with Foster the People after I fell in love with Pumped Up Kicks and then the album couldn't hold my attention at all. But for now, I will enjoy this anthem to carefree youth. So let's set the world on fire.

Shannon - Let the Music Play

There's no dancing without music blasting out of the speakers (unless you take part in a silent disco thingie), so we better do what this dance classic from 1984 tells us to: Let the Music Play.

Chris de Burgh - High on Emotion

If you use Chris de Burgh and love song in the same sentence, most people are likely to say Lady in Red. Actually, they are likely to say that even if you don't mention love songs. If they recognize the name, that is. Well, there is fortunately a bit more about the guy. So before we fall asleep to the admittedly wonderful balad, here comes a bit of an upbeat love song of his.

New Kids on the Block - The Remix

Well, what a suprise this morning. I was expecting to see young boys and 90s haircuts. I got grown up men and suits and ties instead. And a catchy song from 2013. Well... helloooo there, NKOTB.

HIM - Gone With The Sin

Just one of them days I wish I was gone... with or without the sin, it doesn't really matter at this point, but preferably with. And out of this life.

Anastacia - Sick and Tired

I think we all feel a bit like this on Mondays - sick and tired. And to put it in Anastacia's words, I'm sick and tired of always being sick and tired...

Brandon Flowers - Crossfire

It was only a matter of time till I got round to this dude again. His band's name is fiercer than his surname, as he's the frontman of The Killers. Then again, his solo album was called Flamingo. And just to confuse you even more, he claims to be tough again, caught in a Crossfire of heaven and hell. Just to then show you that it's Charlize Theron who has to save him time and again. Things people do for love...

Terence Trent D'Arby - Sign Your Name

Sign your name across my heart...

Duran Duran - Come Undone

Tonight's choice, Britannia's very own Duran Duran.

The Editors - In This Light and on This Evening

The Editors are one of the headlining bands for this year's Sziget festival. In This Light and on This Evening is one of the songs that lull and numb me through an hour long ride on public transports in the morning. So... have a taste.

Guns N' Roses - Welcome to The Jungle

Norah Jones - Come Away with Me

Muse and this particular lady keep getting our hopes up around here for music we love, but it's just German TV station Deluxe TV playing tricks on us with jingles. Well, so we play ourselves some Norah anyway.

Texas - Summer Sun

Jem - They

Such a long time since I last listened to Jem...

Tina Turner - Simply the Best

Since I mentioned her yesterday, it is time to give this Queen of Rock her due. And it's a no contest here - though quite a few songs came to mind, nothing less than Simply the Best would do her justice. A strong lady, a strong voice, a strong career and the sexiest legs in the business.

Vixen - I Want You To Rock Me

Let's not forget about the rockin' ladies :)

Pasarea Colibri - Hei, Tramvai

Every Romanian over 25 should know the lyrics to this one ;-)

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Proud Mary

Another band more than worthy of gracing our Ruby Tuesday has got be CCR. I've switched between three songs (Fortunate Son, Who'll Stop the Rain, Bad Moon Rising) and I think I could've gone on a while without making up my mind, cause there's loads to pick from in their discography. However, there's this... probably their most famous song and some thanks here has to go to Tina and Ike's version as well.

Thin Lizzy - The Boys Are Back in Town

Irish rock...

Counting Crows - Colorblind

And now to tie my other loose end: Claire from the TV series Cupid was a fan of Counting Crows. I had never heard of the band before. Then I discovered VH-1 and I learned Mr. Jones by heart. And finally, some while later, I learned that there is much more to the band than that. Among others, an excellent Monday song.

I am colorblind
Coffee black and egg white
Pull me out from inside
I am ready

The Alexandrov Red Army Choir - Echelon's Song

Revolution! Workers and peasants swarm the streets of the city, storming the factories and bureau buildings...

Avril Lavigne - I'm With You

... just to finish my train of thought - Bunny Munro had an even bigger thing for Avril Lavigne. I'll be gentle and spare you her Ska8er Boi and the ridiculously poppy Girlfriend, but I'll let Avril soothe you through a Sunday and reassure you that she's with you.

ZOB - Telenovele

Que hora es?

SNAP! - Rhythm Is A Dancer

Old school dance / trance. On the recommendation of a friend who's been supplying me, more unwillingly than not, songs for Saturdays:))
I grew up with this son, but I really don't remember ever actually seeing the video.

Kylie Minogue - Spinning Around

You have Nick Cave to thank for this post. I have only recently finished reading his novel The Death of Bunny Munro and I forgot to count the times the main character has been masturbating thinking of Kylie's golden hot pants in this video. He even had this track as a ringtone. So, here's one to you Nick.

The Prodigy - No Good

Feet on fire...

Aqualung - Strange And Beautiful

Sometimes, the last thing you want comes in first,
Sometimes, the first thing you want never comes...

Aretha Franklin - You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman

First time I really paid attention to this song was in 1998, in Halle an der Saale in Germany, during a school trip. Our German teacher's wife was a violin player and had access to various shows in various venues. She provided us tickets to a gospel and soul concert held in a church with brilliant accoustics by a group that was mostly a capella. Two ladies sang a cover of this song of Aretha's and I guess it fits the International Women's Day.

Sam Cooke - Wonderful World

Don't know much about history...

Alexander Rybak - Fairytale

He's cute, of Northern blood and can play the violin.

And I'm shallow.

Simple Minds - Belfast Child

I admit I am bringing out the heavy artillery here. But this is definitely one of the best anti-war songs out there that doesn't stem from the Vietnam War era.

Sigue Sigue Sputnik - Love Missile F1-11

For anyone who has seen "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", this is a song from its soundtrack.

Melanie C - Never Be The Same Again

Well, this got stuck to me sometime this afternoon...
That house seemed so futuristic when I was younger, but now the video just puzzles me... guess I'm not deep enough to understand the sssssymbolism. [ Boondock Saints, anyone? ]

Anyway. Turns out I still like the song.

Meredith Brooks - Bitch

One of the feminist anthems of the 90s and I really loved the video. Scratch Ladies' Wednesday for today, this girl is a bitch.

Lisa Stansfield - All Around The World

Youth memories :)

Republica - Ready to Go

Ok, I'll try to keep this up one more week, maybe it takes some time for the effect of reverse psychology to kick in. So... come on, Monday, hit me with your best shot. I'm Ready to Go. I'll refrain from shouting it from the rooftops, though.

Rammstein - Keine Lust

Another angry Monday morning anthem

Sunday, March 3, 2013

Joey Deluxe - Itsy Bitsy Spider

They're here! It's an invasion!!!

Last time I watched this movie, I remember laughing myself to tears. I need to watch it again soon.

Mike and the Mechanics - Another Cup of Coffee

On a bad weather Sunday, don't look back, don't give up, pour yourself another cup of coffee, cradle up with a good book by the window, watch the rain outside and enjoy a quiet time.

Kula Shaker - Tattva

Tattva, acintya bheda abheda Tattva.
