Thousand Foot Krutch - Fly On The Wall

It's the strings in this one... the instrumental at the begining of the song, I mean.

Jamiroquai - Deeper Underground

I used to hate this guy for some reason... not sure why. However I've gotten over that now.

Gloria Estefan - Hoy

Today's treat, Gloria Estefan with "Hoy":)

Must-visit-Macchu-Picchu-must-visit-Macchu-Picchu @_@

Melissa Etheridge - Nowhere to Go

I love Melissa's voice... and I love the resigned letting go of this song.

Simon and Garfunkel - Sound of Silence

Geesh, I have no idea how we missed these guys. Of course, I wanted to post Mrs. Robinson, because she was dancing around in my head and there is Bridge Over Troubled Water, one of those songs you wish you had written. But I've settled for the tiny voice starting to hum in my head "hello darkness, my old friend"...

Placebo - The Crawl

I've been crawling my way through all of this day, and the atmosphere in this song is just what I needed to express it.
It's twisted though how we keep wishing for so many days to pass as quickly as possible, only to regret that "time flies".
Meh. Street corner philosophy. Enjoy Placebo:)

Boo Radleys - Wake Up Boo!

Ok, I've been through quite some depressing and angry songs here on Mondays and it hasn't helped a lot to digest this horrible day. So I am trying some reverse psychology on Mondays. Cheerful upon waking anyone? (with thanks to Tom Thornton for reminding me of the song).

Apocalyptica - Worlds Collide

Worlds collide, black holes come to life, meteorites crash, supernovas appear... all on Monday...

Ducu Bertzi - Pe Cine Si Cate Carari

I just love Romanian Folk. Especially mountain or hajduk songs. But tonight I'll go with Ducu Bertzi's "Pe Cine Şi Câte Cărări".

Bob Marley - One Love

There are few musical genres more relaxing and uplifting than raggae. So here is the king himself, spreading his message of peace and love.

Madness - Our House

Nothing better than a little bit of Madness on a Sunday :)

Michael Sembello - Maniac

Usually I have to cheat to get through Saturdays. So here's a song stolen from a friends' Facebook :D
Incidentally, I notice it also coincides with my colleague's below posting. It was unintended :)

Irene Cara - What a Feeling

Now, I am no expert in dancing songs, but I think I'm on the safe side if I call this a classic. Double safe, cause it's from a movie about dancing. And triple safe, because I can't sit still while listening to it, so I guess I'm good for this Saturday.

Type O Negative - Electrocute

After Mark Lanegan's sexy voice, here comes another one, the guy mentioned in the Doro Pesch entry: Peter Steele, a name, a voice (and some images cropping up on the interwebs suggest a body) made for porn, he's up there tempting angels now. So, here's one to loves gone by:

Mark Lanegan - The Gravedigger's Song

This is one of them... one of the guys who could do whatever to me, as long as they kept singing... talking... as far as I'm concerned, read out the phone directory to me. His voice is simply hypnotic.

Sixx:A.M. - Life is Beautiful

Sixx:A.M. is a hard rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 2007 by Nikki Sixx, DJ Ashba, and James Michael, and is the side project of Sixx, who is also the bass guitarist for Mötley Crüe. The group is best known for their songs "Life Is Beautiful" and "Lies of the Beautiful People". The name Sixx:A.M. is a combination of all of the member's last names (Sixx, Ashba, Michael).

Dulce Pontes - Cancao Do Mar

This is one beautiful song. The instrumental gives me shivers, her voice is perfect and to top it all, the language is so musical....

Doro Pesch - Salvaje

Here is the ultimate rock lady of Germany, mrs. Doro Pesch, former lead singer of Warlock. I initially wanted to pick another song, a favourite of mine, but that's a duet and she definitely deserves her spotlight alone. Also, her duetting partner is deserving of a day of his own on this blog. So, instead, from the Wild Heart of Doro comes the Spanish titled Salvaje.

The Troggs - Wild Thing

I think the first time I ever heard this song, shamefully enough, was in a commercial for a Lion's chocolate bar. Then it cropped up on various classic rock compilations. I still can't see why it wasn't used in an AXE commercial, but hey, who am I to judge.

Muse - Uprising

I'm rebelling against this beeing your typical Monday. Who's with me?

Amanda Palmer - The Killing Type

Uhm... Warning? NSFW? Then again, the entire Monday isn't exactly suitable for work and while Amanda pledges from the top of her lungs that she is actually not the killing type, Mondays sure turn a lot of people I know into killing types...

Sepultura - Refuse/Resist

Although they broke up, their sound still kicks ass, especially on a Monday.

Brand New Heavies - Sometime

Gotta do right sometimes... like relaxing on a Sunday morning / noon / evening / night to the Brand New Heavies.

Saturday, February 16, 2013

Cindy Lauper - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Well, I'm a girl, it's Saturday night... I'm out to get me some fun :D

The Roots - Seed

Well, weäve brought sexy back and it stayed here, so here are the Roots telling us something about their seeds in irresistable rhythms.

Meat Loaf & Cher - Dead Ringer for Love

Here's a fine voice combo and a classic video of 2 iconic 80s rock stars meeting in a bar. And they are both dead ringers for love.

Thursday, February 14, 2013

The Verve - Love Is Noise

Well, I had something else planned for the day, but all the pink and red hearts in shop windows make this day hard to ignore, so here is my contribution for Valentine's Day. Well not mine, exactly, but rather Richard Ashcroft's. Take it from the Verve, people...

Sheryl Crow - Tomorrow Never Dies

Here's a lady I've always liked, ever since her Tuesday Night Music Club and its single All I Wanna Do. Keeping in track with James Bond theme started yesterday, here is Sheryl showing her sexy side in Tomorrow Never Dies.

Caro Emerald - Just One Dance

No matter how much I deny it, it seems I do like jazz quite a lot...

Lucia - Silence

I've stumbled upon this voice whilst listening to "The Mono Jacks". At first, I taught she's another Inna wannabe, so I ignored the video. I never imagined I could be so wrong...

Omega - Gyöngyhajú lány

I've been wanting to post this song for a very long time now. It's a classic of Hungarian rock and believe it or not, Scorpions made a cover - White Dove.

And for those who are just as proficient as I am in Hungarian, here a translation of the lyrics.

A-Ha - Living Daylights

Straight from the 80s comes Scandinavia's reply to doe-eyed perm-haired soft rock - the guys from A-ha. And what better song than a soundtrack for a Bond movie?

Monday, February 11, 2013

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers - Free Fallin'

I wanna free fall out into nothin'
Gonna leave this world for awhile
And I'm free, I'm free fallin'

Sunday, February 10, 2013

Discovery Channel - Boom De Yada

Well, it's not a song per se.... but I woke up with it in my mind and it is Sunday morning, after all :)

Bananafishbones - Come to Sin

Uhm... up until 2 minutes ago, I had no idea these guys were German. I have only ever heard one song of them, the one below. I just hear the hypnotic "babe... I think I'll come to sin" in my head and lazy/sultry summer afternoon equals easy Sunday morning in my book of maths so...

Michael Flatley - Cry of the Celts

Now, how can it be that the Lord Of The Dance hasn't been yet invited to the party?
Riverdances are absolutely incredible with their passion and energy.

David Bowie - Let's Dance

Uhm... yes, I know, it is the freaking third David Bowie song I have posted to this blog. And I can't really say I am a great fan or even know the guy really well, apart from what VH-1 has fed me some years ago. But... I find that I absolutely suck at picking dancing songs and before I hit you with Macarenas and Gangnam Styles, I'd much rather follow his invitation on the dancefloor. I hope red sneakers will do, David.

Christina Aguilera - Candyman

Because it feels so much like The Andrews Sisters and the boogie-woogie era...

Robert Palmer - Bad Case of Loving You

If there ever was a classy, elegant rock star, it was Robert Palmer. And he can tell you all about love on Friday or any other day of the week, for that matter. He knew how to Get it On, he found you Simply Irresistable and was hopelessly Addicted to Love. Robert is one of those making beautiful music in a better place now. After all, it all goes wrong down here when you get A Bad Case of Loving You.

Soft Cell - Tainted Love

Another one in the series of crooked love songs... :)

Smashing Pumkins - 1979

Back in the nineties, when I was just discovering music and "alternative" was the buzz word, these guys hit it big with their album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. And I didn't even get the pun until much, much later, when the 90s became tinted in nostalgia.

The Mono Jacks - Gandurile

I first heard of them watching "ApropoTV"... At first I taught they are a band of hipsters who decided to make music. But listening to them...

Alanis Morissette - Hand in My Pocket

This lady has a pretty rich discography and so many songs of hers would be deserving to make an appearance here, that I've had a hard time picking one. In the end, I've decided for something off Jagged Little Pill, the album that propelled her to superstardom, once the angry You Oughta Know and then the iconic and heatedly debated Ironic were released as singles. So here's a little lesson about life, the universe and everything, from the girl from Canada who only wanted the world to learn how to spell her name right.

Grace Jones - I've Seen That Face Before (Libertango)

Why Grace Jones? Because, besides being a singer, she's also an actress. She acted in a James Bond movie ("A View to a Kill" - 1985, with Roger Moore starring as James Bond), in "Conan the Destroyer", "Cyber Bandits" etc.

Mylène Farmer - Je Te Rends Ton Amour

Another trip down memory lane. It must have been sometime in high school when I heard about Mylène Farmer for the first time. She is... well, unique:)

P.S.: The French lyrics with a translation to be found here.

Era - Ameno

Well, this brings back memories... I remember back in high school, we used to have a Fasching every year - a carnival, masked ball. One time, some of us in the class created an artistic program on this song. We had black robes, candles, the works =D I only wish somebody had filmed that...

Hall and Oates - Maneater

A song as old as myself. Which makes me... damn. Old.

AC/DC - Whole Lotta Rosie

Because I haven't posted AC/DC in a while, here's one from their album "Let There Be Rock", called "Whole Lotta Rosie".

Monday, February 4, 2013

Soul Asylum - Runaway Train

I used to love this song... and as a matter of fact, I think most of the people I know being in their teens in the 90s did so. One of them songs that should've never been written, because they are about you when you're fifteen. Or when you get a fit of angst on Mondays...

Tool - Sober

For Monday morning one has to be sober enough...

Baz Luhrmann - Everybody's Free (to Wear Sunscreen)

Ladies and gentlement of the class of '99. Or 2000, like myself. Or any other class, for that matter. Take these words of columnist Mary Schmich to heart, as put to sound by Baz Luhrmann.

Sugababes - Denial

It might be hard to imagine that I could like the Sugababes... But this song... I can't get it out of my head for some strange reason...

Saturday, February 2, 2013

Pimpinela - Pasodoble, Te Quiero

A song about a famous Spanish dance... I really like the lyrics and the references and the personifications.

Outkasts - Hey Ya

I can't remember why it was I hated this song at first... I think it was outdoing Maroon's This Love at some awards. Eh... shake that booty.

Die Toten Hosen - Disco

A song that pretty much describes my attitude whilst being dragged into a disco / dance club...

Thomas Dolby - She Blinded Me with Science

A very confused Thomas Dolby for today's love song line-up. Poor dude got blinded by science, but then failed in biology, geometry and hit with technology. Well, who said love would be easy?
